There are several restaurants in downtown Port St. Joe, about three miles south, or drive a bit farther, 27 miles east, to the historic fishing village of Apalachicola, which is famous for its Apalachicola oysters! Apalachicola harvests over 90 percent of the oysters sold in Florida and 10 percent of the nationwide supply.

In addition to the nearly four miles of beautiful beach of WindMark Beach®, St. George Island State Park and St. Joseph Peninsula State Park are 43 and 23 miles, respectively. St. George Island State Park is more than 2,000 acres and includes miles of undeveloped beach with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and Apalachicola Bay on the other. Two boat ramps provide access to Apalachicola Bay for anglers eager to get out on the water and try their luck.

St. Joseph Peninsula State Park's miles of white sugar sand beach make it one of the top-rated beaches in the United States. Birdwatchers will love to watch the antics of a variety of birds—over 240 species have been sighted in the park, which is a coastal barrier peninsula.

Once the third-largest port on the Gulf of Mexico, Apalachicola has a diverse and colorful past that remains visible today. There are over 900 historic homes and buildings on the National Register.
